“Keep Austin Weird” defines South Austin and residents are proud to remind you of that fact. Walk around on the weekend and you’ll find more than a few plays or hippie festivals hosted in even the most expensive homes. The demand to be a part of the South Austin life is high, but there’s still plenty of great reasonably priced real estate available.
The area is home to nearly 200 specialty stores and retro boutiques with perhaps the widest variety of “foodies” on the planet. With easy access to I-35 and arterial drags such as South Congress Avenue, Lamar Boulevard and Oltorf Street, it’s easy to get around South Austin by car. Of course, taking advantage of Austin’s Capital Metro is easy too. The South Congress Transit Center serves as a main hub in South Austin for bus routes going to all parts of the city.
